It was a smooth and solid performance by Rubén Bereda of the New Orleans Voodoo against Wilmington today. He crafted a fine 3-hitter in blanking them 1-0 and chalked up 8 strikeouts and no walks along the way.
"It certainly makes my job easy," said the New Orleans skipper. "When my pitcher pitches a shutout. I can just sit back, watch, and enjoy."

 | Friday, July 31st, 2054: Rapid City's Ruíz in Shutout Victory
Ernesto Ruíz really wowed everybody at the ballpark with his 12-0 shutout victory over New Orleans today. The Rapid City pitcher mystified the Voodoo in a strong performance. He gave up 4 hits and totaled 2 walks and 9 strikeouts.
His manager said, "Ernesto had them chasing a lot of pitches and turning around and saying 'wow' . . . we were thinking the same thing, too. It was something special to watch."
This year Ruíz has worked 117 innings with 88 strikeouts en route to a 7-8 record and 3.15 ERA.

"He's mixing his pitches real well and keeping his composure on the mound," the New Orleans manager said. "When Woods does that, good things happen."
These comments came after Russell Woods and the New Orleans Voodoo shut out the Muncie Knights 5-0.
He had 5 strikeouts, 3 walks and allowed 1 hit.
In the current season in 24 starts, Russell Woods has a record of 5-14 with 89 strikeouts in 151 innings and a 4.95 ERA.
