| Breaking News | | Thursday, August 27th, 2054: Kirkland Wants Out of Flagstaff? Rumors circulating around town, say left fielder John Kirkland is not happy at all playing in Flagstaff and that the Scorpions are actively shopping him around. | | Saturday, August 8th, 2054: Buffalo Blanks Scorpions Ernest Smith of the Buffalo Bandits shut out the Flagstaff Scorpions 8-0, stopped them on 2 hits and had 9 strikeouts and 1 walk in a strong outing.
After the game his manager said, "He just came out and was on the attack from the first pitch he threw. When Ernest stays ahead in the count, he does well. That's the key."
Smith has made 29 starts, tossed 199.1 innings, struck out 132 batters and walked 50. His record is 16-5 with a 3.03 ERA and he has limited other teams to a .229 batting average. | | Tuesday, August 4th, 2054: Gonzáles Belts 5 Hits! 5 times is a charm -- at least in the world of baseball. When a player gets 5 or more hits in a game, he is honored in the record book. The latest honoree is José Gonzáles of the Newport Harbormen.
Today he beat up their pitching to the tune of 5 hits in 5 at-bats, but it was the Flagstaff Scorpions that salvaged a 8-7 victory at Harbormen Ballpark.
"Gonzáles was a tough out today," the Flagstaff manager said to the press in the postgame interview. "He hit some very good pitches with that quick bat of his. Not an easy out, that's for sure. I'm just glad we held everybody else in check and got the win."
Speaking to the SION writers, Gonzáles added, "It was a real good day for me individually, but not a good one for the team. No loss is a good one."
J. Gonzáles singled in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, flied out in the 6th, singled in the 8th, singled in the 11th and hit a two-run home run off A. Mathews in the 13th.
This season Gonzáles is hitting at a .202 pace with 14 home runs, 47 RBIs and has scored 44 times. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 45-85, .346 PCT | | Position in Division | 4th, 18.0 GB | | Record at home | 26-39, .400 PCT | | Record on the road | 19-46, .292 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 9-5, .643 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 18-22, .450 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 16-23, .410 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 29-62, .319 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 4-6, .400 PCT | | Record in March | 1-1, .500 PCT | | Record in April | 9-19, .321 PCT | | Record in May | 10-19, .345 PCT | | Record in June | 11-15, .423 PCT | | Record in July | 7-21, .250 PCT | | Record in August | 7-10, .412 PCT |
