| Breaking News | | Tuesday, August 4th, 2054: Gonzáles Belts 5 Hits! 5 times is a charm -- at least in the world of baseball. When a player gets 5 or more hits in a game, he is honored in the record book. The latest honoree is José Gonzáles of the Newport Harbormen.
Today he beat up their pitching to the tune of 5 hits in 5 at-bats, but it was the Flagstaff Scorpions that salvaged a 8-7 victory at Harbormen Ballpark.
"Gonzáles was a tough out today," the Flagstaff manager said to the press in the postgame interview. "He hit some very good pitches with that quick bat of his. Not an easy out, that's for sure. I'm just glad we held everybody else in check and got the win."
Speaking to the SION writers, Gonzáles added, "It was a real good day for me individually, but not a good one for the team. No loss is a good one."
J. Gonzáles singled in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, flied out in the 6th, singled in the 8th, singled in the 11th and hit a two-run home run off A. Mathews in the 13th.
This season Gonzáles is hitting at a .202 pace with 14 home runs, 47 RBIs and has scored 44 times. | | Wednesday, July 29th, 2054: Harbormen Freitas Smacks 5 Hits! Armando Freitas was on fire today and the Newport left fielder was a tough out, but it was all in vain as the Harbormen fell 7-6 to the Outlaws. For the game he went 5 for 5 against Corpus Christi in a fine hitting display.
"I got my pitches and I connected. They all found the right holes on the diamond. Some days you hit shots and they're right at somebody...and some days they fall in. We just didn't get enough hits at the right time."
A. Freitas singled in the 1st, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off G. Gómez in the 9th.
Currently Freitas is batting .368 with 14 hits and 1 home run. He has knocked in 6 runs and scored 5 times. | | Monday, June 29th, 2054: Red-Hot Rampage Reaps FLAAA Reward It was an exceptional week for Rafael Contreras of the Newport Harbormen.
First he beats the devil out of the ball, hitting .583 and you would expect, he is voted the Player of the Week in the Federal League AAA. Last week Contreras went 14-24, notched 1 home run and 4 RBIs and scored 3 runs. All in all, a very good week for him.
Thus far in 2054 Contreras is batting .213 with 5 home runs, 23 RBIs and 25 runs scored. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 73-57, .562 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 42-23, .646 PCT | | Record on the road | 31-34, .477 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 10-6, .625 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 35-17, .673 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 17-18, .486 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 56-39, .589 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 4-6, .400 PCT | | Record in March | 1-1, .500 PCT | | Record in April | 12-16, .429 PCT | | Record in May | 22-7, .759 PCT | | Record in June | 17-9, .654 PCT | | Record in July | 13-15, .464 PCT | | Record in August | 8-9, .471 PCT |
