"You never think that's going to happen -- a no-hitter."
He made those comments after he held the Greyhounds hitless in the San Francisco 4-1 victory at Sharks Ballpark.
"We simply couldn't get any wood on the ball," said the Fort Myers manager, when asked about his epic performance. "Merced was brilliant out there. He certainly had our number."
Merced was more humble about his historic feat and told SION reporters that he was "just happy to get the win for the club."
He faced only 35 batters in the no-hit gem, struck out 12 and walked 4.
Currently Merced has a record of 12-5 with 117 strikeouts and 71 walks in 194 innings and a 2.92 ERA. |  | Wednesday, August 5th, 2054: 5-Hits Blitz by Jersey City's Burford! It was high-5 day at Skyliners Stadium, at least for Floyd Burford of the Jersey City Skyliners. He got a lot of high-5's for his outstanding hitting against the San Francisco Sharks, but he and his teammates couldn't pull out a win. Burford smashed 5 hits in 6 at-bats on a his record-setting day, but Jersey City still dropped the game 4-3.
His manager said, "Floyd was hitting everything. It really was a special game for him. Too bad the other guys couldn't rise to the occasion and get the victory."
In the other dugout the opposing manager told SION beat writers, "Burford bushwhacked my boys today. Obviously we didn't have much success against him, but luckily, we won the ballgame."
F. Burford doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, struck out in the 5th, singled in the 8th, singled in the 10th and hit a solo-shot off B. Wheeler in the 13th.
