| Breaking News | | Tuesday, July 21st, 2054: Roberts Socks It to Killer Bees, Cracks 5 Hits 5 hits in a game has always been a magic number in baseball. Only a handful of players will do that. Get 5 hits in a game and you get your moment of glory...your 5 minutes of fame...you get your name in the record book.
In the Beef 14-1 win over Colorado Springs, Steven Roberts was red-hot today, scorching them for hit after hit at Omaha Fields.
"To hit the ball consistently well, you have to relax. I was relaxed for the first four hits, but I must admit, I got too much adrenaline going when I realized that this was a special once-in-a-lifetime chance for the record book. On the last hit, I was ready to swing at anything close, I was that excited. That's why my third base coach called time and told me, 'Calm down and wait for a good pitch.' That got me back on track and I nailed the first one in the strike zone."
On his record-setting day Roberts delivered 5 hits in 5 at-bats, a day he will not soon forget.
S. Roberts singled in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off J. Unknown in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off C. Stevens in the 8th.
During the current season Roberts is batting at a .265 clip with 6 home runs and 36 RBIs. He has played in 96 games and scored 38 times. | | Friday, July 3rd, 2054: Sánchez Tags Beef 5 Hits Pedro Sánchez was on fire today and the San Francisco center fielder was a tough out, but it was all in vain as the Sharks fell 14-9 to the Beef. For the game he went 5 for 5 against Omaha in a fine hitting display.
"I got my pitches and I connected. They all found the right holes on the diamond. Some days you hit shots and they're right at somebody...and some days they fall in. We just didn't get enough hits at the right time."
P. Sánchez hit an RBI double in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 4th, hit an RBI triple in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off A. Watson in the 9th.
This season Sánchez is batting .244 with 3 home runs. | | Friday, July 3rd, 2054: Sánchez Touches All the Bases, Hits Cycle It was his day, but the Omaha Beef overcame a cycle by Pedro Sánchez in a 14-9 victory over the San Francisco Sharks at Sharks Ballpark today.
Hitting for the cycle is one of the most unique feats in baseball at any level. The odds are near astronomical against a player hitting a single, a double, a triple and a home run in the same game.
"It feels good for me but it would have felt even better if we had won that ballgame," Sánchez told the SION press corps. "I still enjoy it but I would've liked to win the ballgame, too."
He banged out 5 hits in 5 at-bats to get his place in the record books.
This year Sánchez has socked 75 hits in 307 at-bats for a .244 average with 3 home runs. He is getting on base at a .350 pace and his totals also include 36 RBIs and 47 runs scored. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 74-57, .565 PCT | | Position in Division | 2nd, 4.5 GB | | Record at home | 41-24, .631 PCT | | Record on the road | 33-33, .500 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 7-6, .538 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 26-21, .553 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 21-12, .636 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 53-45, .541 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 3-7, .300 PCT | | Record in March | 1-1, .500 PCT | | Record in April | 16-12, .571 PCT | | Record in May | 16-13, .552 PCT | | Record in June | 17-9, .654 PCT | | Record in July | 17-11, .607 PCT | | Record in August | 7-11, .389 PCT |
