| Breaking News | | Saturday, August 15th, 2054: Mobley Fires Shutout in Colorado Springs Win "Sometimes I was smart . . . and sometimes just a little lucky." That's how Jim Mobley of the Colorado Springs Killer Bees described his shutout victory over the Amityville Horror. Mobley blanked them 7-0 on 5 hits while striking out 3 and walking 1.
In 31 starts this year Mobley has fashioned a 7-15 record and a 4.03 ERA. | | Tuesday, August 11th, 2054: Fort Myers Pitcher Awesome in Shutout The Fort Myers manager told reporters after the game, "When he started out, his command wasn't that good, but he's a tough guy. The more pitches he throws, the better his command is."
He was talking about Gary Sterling, who had just hurled a fine 6-hit shutout over the Colorado Springs Killer Bees. He had 4 strikeouts and 1 walk in the Fort Myers 3-0 victory.
"An outstanding job," the Colorado Springs manager said. "We couldn't get anything going. Every time we got a hit, he got out of the jam. He pitched a terrific game."
This year in 25 starts, Sterling has recorded 9 wins and absorbed 12 losses. He has pitched 171.1 innings, allowed 180 hits, struck out 75 and has a 4.15 ERA. | | Tuesday, July 21st, 2054: Roberts Socks It to Killer Bees, Cracks 5 Hits 5 hits in a game has always been a magic number in baseball. Only a handful of players will do that. Get 5 hits in a game and you get your moment of glory...your 5 minutes of fame...you get your name in the record book.
In the Beef 14-1 win over Colorado Springs, Steven Roberts was red-hot today, scorching them for hit after hit at Omaha Fields.
"To hit the ball consistently well, you have to relax. I was relaxed for the first four hits, but I must admit, I got too much adrenaline going when I realized that this was a special once-in-a-lifetime chance for the record book. On the last hit, I was ready to swing at anything close, I was that excited. That's why my third base coach called time and told me, 'Calm down and wait for a good pitch.' That got me back on track and I nailed the first one in the strike zone."
On his record-setting day Roberts delivered 5 hits in 5 at-bats, a day he will not soon forget.
S. Roberts singled in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off J. Unknown in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off C. Stevens in the 8th.
During the current season Roberts is batting at a .265 clip with 6 home runs and 36 RBIs. He has played in 96 games and scored 38 times. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 46-84, .354 PCT | | Position in Division | 4th, 29.0 GB | | Record at home | 23-42, .354 PCT | | Record on the road | 23-42, .354 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 7-8, .467 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 13-24, .351 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 10-31, .244 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 36-53, .404 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 3-7, .300 PCT | | Record in March | 0-2, .000 PCT | | Record in April | 11-17, .393 PCT | | Record in May | 11-18, .379 PCT | | Record in June | 9-17, .346 PCT | | Record in July | 8-20, .286 PCT | | Record in August | 7-10, .412 PCT |
