| Breaking News | | Saturday, August 1st, 2054: Hammond Smacks 5 Hits for Sandpipers It wasn't just another day at the ballpark for Bob Hammond. It was very special day, one that many players never experience. But he did. Hammond went on a tear and cracked hit after hit off Canton pitching.
When the dust settled on the diamond at Gamblers Ballpark, he had a career 5-7 day and something he will long remember. And the Charleston Sandpipers had a 7-6 victory over the Cannons.
"Yeah, it'll be something nice to tell the grandkids, but it won't get me a hit tomorrow," he laughed in the SION postgame interview.
B. Hammond grounded out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 8th, singled in the 11th and singled in the 14th.

He held the Charleston Sandpipers scoreless in a 6-hit whitewash.
Alaniz was in a zone of his own most of the game and finished with no strikeouts and no walks in a strong outing.
In a postgame quote his own skipper added, "He pitched his butt off, had good velocity, good movement and had those guys off balance. Javier did a whale of a pitching job."
On his 2054 stats sheet Alaniz shows a 7-8 record, 20 starts, 135 innings, 64 strikeouts and a 3.13 ERA. | | Sunday, July 5th, 2054: 5-Hits Blitz by Wichita's Ash!
