| Breaking News | | Wednesday, July 22nd, 2054: Moon Goes 5-5 Against Shreveport Jim Moon was on quite a roll today as he knocked the ball all over the park, collecting 5 hits and leading the Waterbeasts to a 8-2 victory over the Shreveport Mudbugs.
After the first three hits, all eyes in the ballpark were drawn to him each time he stepped into the batter's box. Even a few of the opposing fans were pulling for him, knowing they were watching a little baseball-hitting history unfold.
In the clubhouse, crowded by reporters, the Burlington right fielder said, "I never realized that batting a little ball around could cause so much commotion." When asked what the secret of hitting so well is, he smiled and replied, "The key to hitting for a high average is to relax, concentrate and hit the ball where they ain't."
Nobody was at home today as Moon finished the day with 5 hits in 5 at-bats and a line in the record book.
J. Moon singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, doubled in the 7th and hit a two-run double in the 8th.
This season Moon is batting at a .253 clip with 1 home run and 22 RBIs. | | Thursday, July 9th, 2054: Shreveport's Sun Goes Ballistic with 5 Hits Zuo-lin Sun exploded for a barrage of base hits today at Mudbugs Ballpark. The Shreveport right fielder had a field day in the 10-9 triumph over the Terre Haute Jets, finishing up with a 5-6 day and a spot in the league record book.
"My hitting philosophy is pretty simple," he said. "I focus just to see the ball and try to get a good pitch."
Well, Sun must have focused at least 5 times and apparently got some good pitches, too. It was one of his best days ever with the bat.
Z. Sun grounded out in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
Year-to-date in 83 games Sun has compiled a .297 batting average with 90 hits and 5 home runs. He has also scored 41 times and knocked in 46 runs. | | Tuesday, July 7th, 2054: Red-Hot Gómez Scorches Mudbugs "Ever since I picked up my first bat my coaches were always saying to keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing... just make contact and ya never know what'll happen," Terre Haute's Rafael Gómez told reporters after the game. "That's all I did today. I made contact and it turned out well."
It definitely turn out well for Gómez today as he collected 5 hits in 5 at-bats against Shreveport. It turned out well for his team, too, as the Jets knocked off the Mudbugs 13-4 at Terre Haute Grounds.
R. Gómez doubled in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a three-run home run off M. Abcejo in the 8th.
A look at his season totals shows Gómez with 2 home runs, .336 BA, .394 OBP, 19 RBIs and 17 runs scored. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 2-5, .286 PCT | | Position in Division | 2nd, 4.0 GB | | Record at home | 0-3, .000 PCT | | Record on the road | 2-2, .500 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 0-1, .000 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 1-1, .500 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 0-1, .000 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 2-4, .333 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 2-5, .286 PCT | | Record in April | 2-5, .286 PCT |
