| Breaking News | | Wednesday, September 23rd, 2054: García Spins Shutout Against Shoeless Joes "That's one thing that has never changed in this game -- pitching can control hitting," the Black Dragons manager told reporters after today's game.
The Shoeless Joes ran into a buzzsaw as Xavier García cut them down to size 1-0 with a 5-hit shutout.
His skipper added, "He knows exactly what he's doing. He's not going to throw you a good pitch until you make him throw one."
In the complete game whitewash the Dublin hurler doled out no walks and registered 5 strikeouts.
In the postgame press conference his catcher said, "Xavier goes out there and just goes about his business. I don't think he gets too concerned about what's going on. You can call any pitch and you know where he's going to be."
García also got some praise from the Joliet manager.
"He really kept us in check today. Everything looked to be moving. Seemed like the pitch was right down the middle and it went over down and away... we took some pathetic swings."
In 2054 García has compiled a 5-1 record with a 2.59 ERA. | | Thursday, September 10th, 2054: Big Day with Bat, Walker 5-5 It wasn't just another day at the ballpark for Bobby Walker. It was very special day, one that many players never experience. But he did. Walker went on a tear and cracked hit after hit off San Benito pitching.
When the dust settled on the diamond at Joes Field, he had a career 5-5 day and something he will long remember. And the Joliet Shoeless Joes had a 6-3 victory over the Greyhounds.
"Yeah, it'll be something nice to tell the grandkids, but it won't get me a hit tomorrow," he laughed in the SION postgame interview.
B. Walker singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, hit a two-run single in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
In his 2054 season totals, Walker has no home runs, .352 BA, .364 OBP, 7 RBIs and 6 runs scored. | | Wednesday, August 12th, 2054: Hot Hitter! Alexander Blisters Joliet! 5 times is a charm -- at least in the world of baseball. When a player gets 5 or more hits in a game, he is honored in the record book and the latest honoree is Tom Alexander of the Penobscot Loggers.
He tore up the Joliet Shoeless Joes to the tune of 5 hits in 6 at-bats in the Penobscot 12-1 win today at Loggers Ballpark.
"Alexander was a tough out today," the Joliet manager said to the press in the postgame interview. "He hit some very good pitches with that quick bat of his. Not an easy out, that's for sure."
T. Alexander hit an RBI single in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th, hit a three-run home run off D. Burns in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
So far this season Alexander has hit .284 with 2 home runs, 13 RBIs and and scored 16 times. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 28-34, .452 PCT | | Position in Division | 4th, 10.0 GB | | Record at home | 12-19, .387 PCT | | Record on the road | 16-15, .516 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 2-1, .667 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 9-9, .500 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 8-16, .333 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 20-18, .526 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 4-6, .400 PCT | | Record in July | 8-4, .667 PCT | | Record in August | 12-16, .429 PCT | | Record in September | 8-14, .364 PCT |
