On the hill Mario Barrón stood out and was the master of the moment as he blanked Morgantown 14-0.
At bat the Miners floundered, fizzled and failed to score.
"His fastball moves and he mixes in the slider," the Morgantown manager said. "He kept us off-balance."
The Brewster pitcher hurled a 5-hit shutout in an exceptional effort. He gave up 3 walks and had 5 strikeouts.
"I felt good," Barrón said. "That's probably the best fastball I've had all season. I was able to locate it pretty well. They were super-aggressive, which helped me."

Everything clicked on the hill today for Marc Welch of the Fort Wayne Fighters as he hurled his club to a 5-0 shutout win over the Morgantown Miners, limiting them to 4 hits while recording 8 strikeouts and yielding no walks. He overpowered some batters with his fastball and buckled knees with his sharp breaking pitches.
"We had our shot at him a couple of different times," the Miners manager said, "but we weren't able to get to him."
In 2054 Welch has compiled a 4-1 record with a 1.79 ERA in 6 starts.

Morgantown Miners fans are celebrating Javier Morales's selection as United League R Player of the Week.
Morales put up some serious numbers over the past seven days as he cracked 13 hits in 31 at-bats. The 22-year-old center fielder hit .419, drove in 6 runs, scored 8 times and hit no home runs.
