| Breaking News |  | Thursday, September 3rd, 2054: Welch Guns Down Hurricanes Marc Welch was downright nasty in pitching a 3-0 shutout against Key West. His splitter was diving, his slider was breaking and the Hurricanes were swinging and looking bad. In the solid 4-hit shutout the Fighters hurler chalked up 5 strikeouts and 2 walks in a strong outing.
"As the game went on, he got stronger," his manager said. "I thought he really turned it up a notch in the eighth and ninth and probably threw his best breaking balls in those two innings. They put a lot of balls in play early in the count because he was throwing strikes."
This season Welch has a 2-1 mark in 4 starts with a 2.58 ERA. He has given up 32 hits in 38.1 innings, struck out 24 and issued 9 walks. "Peoples certainly pitched a strong game against us today. He was in a groove, throwing everything for strikes. Throwing hard. Changing speeds."
The Palo Alto starter tamed the Key West Hurricanes 1-0 with a 6-hit shutout, finishing the game with 4 strikeouts and no walks in a sharp outing.
"I enjoy facing a team like that where I can get an out on one, two or three pitches," Peoples said. "It gives me a chance to be a lot more aggressive."
|  | Thursday, July 30th, 2054: Pierce Blanks Fort Wayne In an outstanding mound performance, Jesse Pierce of the Key West Hurricanes scuttled the Fort Wayne Fighters 9-0 on a 4-hit shutout, ringing up 3 strikeouts and giving up 1 walk.
"He's got great stuff and good movement," the Fort Wayne manager said after the game.
"He threw a lot of breaking balls. He made adjustments. We just couldn't figure him out today."
