| Breaking News |  | Saturday, May 9th, 2054: Pittsburgh Shortstop Hurt
It took the Pittsburgh team doctor a while to realize it, but shortstop Miguel López won't simply play through a torn calf muscle after he got hurt running the bases in today's Dockers-Red Wings game. At first, it looked like López might be back as early as tomorrow, but now the prognosis isn't quite so good; he's expected to miss at least 2 months. A spokesman for the club described the loss of López as a blow, but was confident that he'd be back soon.
López is presently hitting at a .324 pace with 5 home runs and 20 RBIs. He has played in 35 games and scored 34 times.

Pittsburgh's Javier Estrada had a productive April and topped it off by winning the Batter of the Month citation from the Federal League.
The 26-year-old catcher stood out at the plate with a .384 batting average, 9 home runs, 23 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

This week's best performer in the Federal League was catcher Javier Estrada of the Pittsburgh Red Wings.
He slashed out a .526 average and was voted the Player of the Week. Over the last week Estrada stroked 10 hits in 19 at-bats and 1 home run, drove in 10 runs and scored 5 times.
